Doodle Dump #3

This dump is a big one.

Guess who got a hair cut?

Yeesh.

It troubles me a little that "Help" shows up a lot in my doodles.

Doodle Dump #2

I got on to googly eyes for a bit.

I seem to gravitate towards circles, stars and swirly lines when I can't think of anything else to doodle. And they in turn, sometimes, turn into something else.

I've developed a bad habit of planning what I'm doing to doodle before I even get there. "Tonight I'll draw a shoe with a flower growing out of and then some squiggly lines surrounding the thing." NO! That's not how it's supposed to happen.

See what I mean. LOTS of circles.

Hey, an actual character type character! I wonder where he came from?

Now I seem to be into goo.

I need to work on freeforming, like drawing on autopilot. I need to turn off the brain and just move the pen around. It's almost like I can't distract myself enough to properly doodle. I'm always thinking of what I'll doodle next.

Doodle Dump #1

Here goes nothing.

This was my first one. I'm off to an odd start.

I'm trying my penbrush since the pens I bought specifically for doodling turned out to be kinda crappy. Great ink flow but it's too thick for detailing.

This freak started out as a fortune cookie.

Uh oh, I'm starting to get a little cramped.

I had a headache this night. Can you tell?

This is me thinking of all the leftover christmas sweets in the kitchen, how good they'd taste with a cup of tea and why I need to remember I just lost one pant size so I can't screw things up now.

This was chore day.

Hmm, one of my darker days. I wonder what doodle interpreters would make of this one.

I did a quick search of "doodle" in Google and found a recent study that says drawing while on the phone or in boring lectures boosted memory recall later. I think this means if I need to remember what happened on Xena: Warrior Princess or what happened while my boyfriend was playing Bayonetta on the PS3 last night, I'm set.

Let's try something else

So my weekly idea for sketching thing didn't really work out. I just couldn't keep my attention focused.

I'm trying out something new now. I've bought a small sketchbook, about 3"x5", and am just doodling with pen. That means no erasing and no preconceived ideas. I feel like starting from scratch and working back into my big sketchbook. Maybe a change of materials will help. Maybe the smaller size will take the pressure of filling a whole 8x10 sketchbook page. Maybe doodling in pen will make things feel more throw away because I can't erase, so if I don't like what I drew I can't just get rid of it, it's there for good and I have to start another one.

Maybe I'm just grasping at straws here. But either way, I'll post my scribble pages when I have a handful to share.

Week 7+: Whatever

Well, this blog is working out great! Note the sarcasm there.

I got busy with work and tired at night and my enthusiasm just faded away. I am hoping to start up again, maybe a new year resolution will hit me and stick.

Week 5 & 6: Halloween

So I've slacked off for a couple of weeks. I didn't do much of anything so I thought I'd put it all together and I got a bit of something but not much.

I'm trying to use Halloween as a warm up do drawing for a project I've given myself. I won't be posting sketches for that because I'm planning of finishing those ideas in colour. Even though I do love this time of year, I'm finding it a struggle to come up with something to draw. When ever I pull up to my drafting table with my sketchbook in front of me I immediately want to fall asleep.

I saw Trick 'r Treat, finally, so that's where that little ball headed kid came from in my sketches.

Week 4: Goblins

Phew, this one was a little hard. I couldn't really get my imagination around "goblins" but I stuck with it. What did work was drawing a goblin and then right after that I'd have an idea for something else, so they were like a warm up. And I bought two new colours of pencils last weekend so I got to try them out.
